Replacing a laptop hardrive
Before replacing a laptop hard drive do a little research to find the CORRECT type of connection...
The older Pentium 4 laptops would use an EIDE 2.5 inch hard drive.
The newer Quad Core and Core 2 laptops would use a SATA 2.5 inch hard drive...
Look up this info on the manufacturers website for your laptop.
Once you purchased a new replacement hard drive ( I like to buy from www.newegg.com or www.tigerdirect.com) and are ready to install then go to step 1.
Step 1 - Look closely at your laptop. Examine the enclosure looking for the hard drive. This may be identified by the letters HDD, but may vary from manufacturers.
Step 2 - 99% of the time the old HDD can be removed from the laptop by unscrewing at least 1 screw.
Step 3 - After removing the screw, gently slide out the HDD and the chassis from the laptop.
Step 4 - Remove the screws from the HDD chassis which locks the HDD into place.
Step 5 - Remove and replace the old HDD with the new HDD and reinsert the screws into the chassis to lock the HDD into place.
Step 6 - Gently slide the HDD chassis back into the laptop.
Step 7 - Install the locking screw.
Step 8 - Boot up your machine and install a new OS.
COMPLETE!!!
